Need
- Current Central Library was built in the early 60’s and has been showing its age for some time
- Regina Public Library has out grown the current downtown building
- A new Central Library and Cultural Centre will help meet the growing needs of Regina’s ever-growing population
- The Cultural Centre will create a dynamic and vibrant sense of civic pride in the heart of downtown Regina
- Only minor upgrades have been done since the initial construction of the Central Branch
- The condition study for repairs over the next few years is approximately $10 million
- Does not address the space issue for function, public safety, or building code
- Currently 75,000 square feet, new facility would have to approximately 150,000 square feet
